36. SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION

SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION (1994)

Language       -       English (United States)

Genre             -       Drama

Director         -       Frank Darabont

*ing                -       Tim Robbins (Andy Dufresne), Morgan Freeman (Ellis Boyd "Red" Redding)

PLOT

Dufresne is allegedly charged with the murder of his wife and her secret lover. He is sentenced to serve the life imprisonment in Shawshank Prison. He makes new friends especially Red, thereafter it revolves around the life in prison. His friendship with fellow inmates, his charge free tax evasion methods to the police officers, his effort to expand the prison library, the life goes on.

There are large number of movies in world cinema about prison, most of them deals with the hardcore life in prison, while Shawshank is different, even if it tells from the point of view of Red about Andy, it emphasis on the simple life in prison, happiness in enjoying a beer together after a huge work, watching gorgeous heroine in the reels and betting on new inmates. The movie’s main theme is about hope, it says “hope is a good thing and good thing never dies”. The story of antagonists Andy is a fine example of this hope, you may find it as simple good feel movie while reading the plot, but it has all the elements of happiness, sentiments, and even suspense for everyone to enjoy. The refreshment it provides at the end of the movie will make us speechless.

Shawshank Redemption is not a new name for cinema lovers, most of them had seen it many times, if not watch it now itself; otherwise you are missing a masterpiece in world cinema.

35. BAAHUBALLI 2: THE CONCLUSION (2017)

 BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION

Language               -       Telugu (Indian)
Genre             -       Period War Drama
Director         -       S. S Rajamouli
*ing                -       Prabhas (Amerendra Baahubali, Mahendra Baahubali), Anushka (Devasena), Rana (Bhallaladeva)
PLOT
The movie begins with the story of Amerendra Baahubali’s life, love, and the circumstances which led Kattappa to backstab Baahubali and finally the revenge of his son Mahendra Baahubali.
Being an Indian it’s a proud moment for me to review this movie as it became the first Indian movie to cross 1000cr($ 200million) mark. But still there are many pros and cons with this movie. The movie is entirely a visual treat for the viewers and didn’t even cause any lag in any scenes. Prabhas made a huge work to fit into both the father and son character accordingly. His physique is a statement for his hardwork. Remya Krishnan, Anushka, Satyaraj also made great perfomence. Background music were top class, it was an exact sync with each situation.
Ballaladeva’s (antagonist) character doesn’t get much importance like in the first movie. It was felt that he was intentionally made inferior to Baahubali. Rajamouli added many unwanted fight scenes in the movie and made an impression of a pure telugu movie, comparing with the first part (Baahubali: The Beginning) it had many masala fight sequences but much better in story wise. Baahubali 2 only had these kind of small mistakes, if we forget all these things it is really a great work.
