PLOT
An MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton is sent to the cold war
Germany to retrieve the missing list which contains the identity of all the
special operatives in both East and West Germany. MI6 is also keen to catch
“snatchel” a double agent British spy. She must partner with the British agent
David Percival in Berlin to navigate her way through the deadly game of spies.
But from the moment she lands West Berlin, Lorraine’s cover is blown. Russians
tries to kidnap her; a French spy is also on her tail and at the same time she
doubts the real identity of Percival. In this time of mistrust and secrets, she
must overcome every hurdle to keep the balance.
MY VIEW
“Atomic Blond” is based on the 2012 graphic novel The
Coldest City. The film is largely told in
flashback as Broughton is interrogated by her MI6 supervisor Eric Gray and CIA
agent Emmett Kurzfeld. It’s a stylish spy thriller which showcase for Theron's
incredibly visceral prowess as an action hero (she is said to have performed
most of her own stunts) and for Leitch's inventive, bloody set pieces. Her
perfection in each stunt scene was top notch along with her dialogue delivery,
she once again concreated her status as one of the most talented and highly
paid actresses in Hollywood. You can think of the intensity in the fights of
this movie, when you came to know that the man behind this spy thriller is the
same one who brought John Wick. Wick’s influences can be seen in some of the
stunts. The key fight sequence that unfolds in an East Berlin building lasts
for almost 10 minutes in what appears to be an unbroken take when, in fact, the
sequence comprises almost 40 separate shots seamlessly stitched together.
Even though the movie takes place
during the fall of Berlin Wall, it doesn’t go deep inside the politics of the
fall, instead it concentrates only on the story. But its little bit difficult
to grasp the twists and scenes in the movie and we all may go through
confusions if doesn’t pay attention to the screen closely. Soundtrack used in
this movie is awesome which includes the hit songs of 80s.
VERDICT
Charlize Theron had eight personal trainers to help
her master her intensely physical performance. She also trained with Keanu
Reeves who was preparing for John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017). She made a lot of
commitment and hard work to portray Lorraine in this movie, and it pays of
completely with its Box Office success. It paves the way to start a new series
of a new spy, Theron also announces a sequel for this movie. So its bucket list
movie for all action, thriller and Charlize Theron Fans.
